Change audio settings

Audio settings let you change the audio playback speed and more. Depending on the type of audio the eBook includes, you might see the following options:

  • If the book has text-to-speech (computer-generated) audio, you can change the speed and whether words are highlighted as they are read. You can even choose a voice. Options include American, English, and Spanish accents.

    Note: The reader does not translate eBooks to Spanish.

  • If the book has Read Along (a recorded narration) audio, you can change the speed and the word highlight color.

Note: You can also adjust display settings.

To access and change audio settings:

  1. From the eBook header, click Settings icon..

    Note: If you don't see the icon, click More icon..

  2. Do any of the following:

    Then...

    Change the audio playback speed

    Under Audio Speeds, move the slider to the desired speed.

    Change how text is highlighted with audio (text-to-speech titles only)

    Under HIGHLIGHT OPTIONS, select one of the following:

    • WORDS to have each word highlighted as it is read aloud.
    • SENTENCES to have each sentence highlighted as it is read aloud.
    • NONE to have the text read aloud without any highlighting.

    Notes:

    • Different options appear, depending on your desktop or mobile device.
    • If you close an eBook and return to it later, the voice options you previously selected will remain.

    Change the voice (text-to-speech titles only)

    Under Voices, select a voice option.

Note: Click X or anywhere on the page to close the audio options.

To play audio for an eBook:

To have the text read aloud, from the eBook header, click Play icon.. Click Pause icon. to pause.
